Cold Grave

She lay there, exposed,
Unconcerned,
about her state of undress,
unapologetic even.
Limbs sprawled, head thrown back.
She lay on the ground,
motionless.

Her body was cold to the touch,
Chilled.
Had turned blue.
She looked like she was sleeping,
After spray painting herself.
The officer, on her naked body,
A white sheet, hurriedly, threw.

She cringed with embarrassment,
While looking down at herself,
lying there Spread-eagled,
averted her eyes, and sighed.
Death strips you of your dignity,
And pride.

On hearing a commotion,
Her soul, looked at him,
so expectantly.
That witnessing her eagerness,
My eyes misted over,
unexpectedly.

The distraught young man,
was inconsolable,
threw himself on the cold body
covered with the white sheet,
and wept.
As if with his warm tears,
her cold and chilled,
heart and body,
they could melt.

She had gone, far far away,
from this unfeeling world,
away from  heartache and pain.
She didn’t want to be born again,
until she was promised love.
She wanted it all,
Wanted to be the,
mistress of her fate,
needed with her,
her soul-mate.

Without him by her side,
She did not want to,
go along for the ride.
She’d had enough,
of lonely winters,
and parched summers.
She didn’t want,
any of it, no way.

Now she needed assurances,
before coming back,
to live here,
where people realize,
Your worth only,
after you’ve gone away.

Undone

When did we come undone? Can’t really say.
When did your hand, slip out of mine?
When did our steps falter?
When did we stop walking in unison?
When did you stride away,
Leaving me alone along the way?

Don’t have a clue, why we’re no longer together?
When did things become, so unbearable to handle?
Why didn’t we fight harder, to be with one another?
To forgive each others innocent mistakes.

We just gave up, one bitter-sweet day.
You just said your piece and walked away.
Without giving me a chance to, change your mind.
Left me with nothing to say.

Love’s going hurts like hell, drives you mad with grief.
You forget to ever smile again, your dry eyes forever weep.
The niggling ache in the place, where your heart used to be,
rings hollow, when you tap it, nobody’s home, it seems to say.

Ever since we parted ways, life has been a blur of breathing,
eating, existing, without living. Surviving is not so important,
Feels like such a waste of time, this aimless wandering.
How can you go on , after your reason for living is,
Snatched out of your life, without a warning?

You stare vacantly, trying to remember,
How happy you once had been.
How his one look could melt your insides,
How his touch could make you surrender?
Your innermost desires would spill out,
the moment he was near you.
How you almost died with ecatasy,
When he whispered in your ear,
“I Love You.”

A poem

A poem tugged at my sleeve,
and tried to catch my eye.
I ignored the gentle pull and,
Walked away, unmindful,
of its tiny sigh.

It followed me like a puppy,
loyal, loving and playful.
Hopped, skipped and danced,
Around me, trying to catch,
my attention.

My strides didn’t falter,
My path I didn’t alter.
Kept looking straight ahead,
Ignoring the poem, as if,
It didn’t at all matter.

I outran the poem and sat in a bar,
filled with smoke and dirty wallpaper.
There were people, everywhere,
that I could see.
The poem must have crept up,
on me, while I wasn’t looking.
Cause I suddenly had the urge,
to put it down on paper.

It came out nice and read so well,
That it swelled my heart with pride.
I wish you could have read it too,
It was about love and about you.

If I forget?

How will I remember you?
If I lose my mind,
I would hate it,
Not knowing you.
I don't want to not remember.
What do I do?
How can I never forget?

If you call my name,
and I don't answer?
Will you stop calling?
If you talk to me and,
I refuse to respond?
Will you never,
Speak to me again?

Please make an effort again.
Give me another chance,
to recognize you.
I don't want to forget.
When I see you coming and,
Turn my head away?
Know that, I can't see you,
In my mind’s eye,
I am sightless,
I am blind,
Because of the illness.

If I ask your name?
Please humor me,
Spell it out for me,
Maybe it will jog my memory.
If I go away, drift off,
Will you bring me back home?
Will you tell me,
that you love me?
Will you keep me,
from wandering off?
If I stop loving you,
Will you do the same?

Know that, though my mind,
might forget you.
My heart and soul,
will remain forever,
Loyal to your memory.
I may look like,
I am going someplace,
But, in reality,
I will be lost forever.

THANK YOU

For, being there for me, in spite,
of life’s numerous demands.
Thank you for your concern,
for my well-being and sanity.
For, not letting me get lost.
For, being my pillar of strength,
When I needed you the most.

Your comforting presence,
kept me from going insane.
The mere thought of your,
Caring and affectionate heart,
prevented me from freaking out,
due to the uncertainty n pain.

You didn’t let me drown,
wouldn’t let me fall.
You helped me think positive,
Be brave and strong.
Because of your support and love,
I held on and withstood it all.

Don’t know what I’d have done,
would have collapsed.
Had it not been for you,
I’d have perished,
given up hope.
I would have surely,
Shrivelled up and died.
Without you by my side,
I wouldn’t have survived.

When You Come...

When You come….

When you come and tell me,
Why you haven’t called?
Why you haven’t tried to be in touch.
Why, in spite of missing me a lot,
You haven’t tried to be here at all?

I will smile, my sad sweet smile,
And look into your warm eyes.
Sexy, mesmerising eyes, and say,
Darling, I understand.
You don’t need to explain.
If you could be here sooner,
You would come without any delay.

I trust you, to do the right thing,
I know you will come through.
It’s just that, waiting is hell,
And no contact with you is,
Damaging to my mind,
Can’t you tell?

Though I have an unshakeable,
Belief in your sincere feelings,
I sometimes, stumble and fall,
Into the trap of self-doubt.
Indulge in self-pity and be the,
Tragedy queen, of all.

I know you care, I know you’ll call.
You’ll definitely come,
as soon as you can.
Until then, I will go quietly mad,
Trying to remain forever happy,
And never be, even a bit sad.

Girl on the swing...

Girl on the swing…

“Why doesn’t he forgive me? What’s my crime? I fell in love with a boy, whom my parents didn’t like, that’s my crime.”

Siya tries to think of something to say or do to make her parents, especially her father, forgive her. Mr Ram Kapoor has disinherited his daughter and thrown her out of his house and heart too. But Siya, remains seated on the swing on the lawns of her father’s palatial bungalow, hoping to melt his heart and beg for forgiveness for the attempted elopement that took place two weeks ago. She sees her father’s car approaching and gets off the seat and waves at her dad, he simply stares at her for a brief moment and turns his face away, driving off towards the house. Siya is stunned and so hurt at this rejection, tears spill out of her beautiful eyes.

Siya is the only child of the richest businessman of Meethapur, her father Ram Kapoor owns the whole city. He adores his lovely 19year old daughter and fulfils all her demands. One day, on the way to college, Siya’s car breaks down and Rajat, who happens to be studying in the same college, helps her out by offering her a lift on his bike. And the rest as they say is history. Siya and Rajat fall in love so deep, that they cannot live without each other.

Rajat and Siya bunk classes and go for movies at the only cinema-hall in the city, Gagan Cinema. Siya loves these outings because she can sit with her head resting on his broad shoulder and her hand on his rapidly beating heart. She loves playing with the hair covering his chest. Some days these two dare to even steal a kiss or two during the climax of the movie, but they always make sure to rush out before the lights come on. But because it is the only movie hall in the area, the love-birds are spotted and reported back to her parents by the meddling good Samaritans.

“How dare you make me the laughing stock of the entire city?” thunders Mr Kapoor, and Siya starts trembling. She has never seen him so angry and out of control, “But Daddy, we love each other and want to get married.” Siya’s remark adds fuel to the fire and Mr Kapoor looks at Siya with something akin to disgust on his face, “Love?”, “ What do you know of love my dear?”, he asks sarcastically of his beloved daughter. “Love doesn’t conquer all, like in the movies, you have to have money to survive and be happy. He cannot give you what you are accustomed to, you will never be happy with him.” Siya tries once more to let him know just what Rajat and his love means to her,” Daddy, he is my soul-mate, the missing piece of my heart. I can never be happy with anybody else, please meet with him once and see for yourself.”

“No, never….And you will also never meet him again, it’s my order or I will disinherit you and then see how fast he turns tail and runs away.” Saying this, Mr Kapoor walked out the door. Siya is stunned, “How can Daddy be so judgemental and obstinate? I will run away with Rajat and then see how he doesn’t accept us.” Siya calls up Rajat and tells him about her plan; Rajat is apprehensive but gives in to Siya’s hysterical ramblings. They decide to run away in the early hours of the morning and at 4 a m, Siya and Rajat slip out of the main gate of Kapoor mansion never to return again.

On reaching the railway station, they realise that it’s not easy running away at the age of 19 and keeping house. They decide to wait for a couple of years and then try and change their parent’s minds. Rajat drops Siya off near the corner of her house and rushes off to his place, before his parents wake up and Siya, lost in her thoughts steps off the kerb, and is instantly run over by a truck, driven by a drunk driver. She dies instantly and the screeching of the brakes wakes up her family members.

Her father picks up her bloodied form in his arms and cries, inconsolably. “I am sorry Siya, Please forgive me. I should have listened to you, come back to me. I will get you married off to Rajat.” But it’s too late and Siya is long gone from this heartless world.

Siya’s soul remains seated on the swing, and the servants swear that they see her ghost at night. She keeps saying, “Daddy I love you, please forgive me for hurting you but I can’t live without Rajat. Please accept him as your son-in-law.”

The swings makes a creaking sound and the breeze turns chilly……
